Description

Rosette is an emission nebula with a open cluster embedded, distant from Solar System about 5.000 Light Years. Its apparent size is 78 arc-minutes,corresponding to almost two full Moons, Magnitude 4.8 and age of about 2 million years.

For my interest, the most interesting feature of this nebula is the presence of patches of obscured matter as well as the presence of dark nebulae spread out as dark lanes over the nebular structure. The smaller of this dark structures is know as Bok Globules with size comparable, in average, to 5 solar systems, works as cocoons for active star formation.

A word about Bok Globules: They are dense opaque clouds of dust and gas, some of which are condensing under gravitational attraction to form stars and planets.

To have a better contrast of these structures, I decided to image Rosette in Narrow Band , using Ha and O3 filters.

Image:

9x900sec Ha bin 1x1

12x900sec O3 bin 1x1

Scope: TMB 92 f/5.5

Focal Reducer Flattener Teleview TRF 2008: x0.8

OAG: SBIG OAG-8300

Camera: ST8300

CCD Guider: Lodestar'

Pre and Pos-Processing: PixInsight

Bias, Darks and Flats applied

** REPROCESSING**

This re-processing aimed to stand out the O3 data, by increasing the contrast in the blue channel. Also some better sharpening has been carried out in the synthetic luminance channel.
